Discover local history by exploring the Northwest ORCA Database

Attention, local history fans! Tacoma Public Library is thrilled to share its newest archival discovery platform, Northwest Online Records and Collections Access (ORCA)! This platform provides access to the unique local history collections held by the Library's Northwest Room and Community Archives Center including photographs, documents, recordings, and other materials related to the people, places, organizations, and businesses of Tacoma.

Through a new partnership with the Office of the City Clerk, this database will also serve as an access point for City Council Meeting Minutes 1884 to present. These important records documenting the activities of the City Council will now be accessible and searchable to the public for the first time.

Northwest Room staff have developed training materials to orient new users including a “Beginner’s Guide to Northwest ORCA, opens a new window” video tutorial and a step-by-step “Guide for Using Northwest ORCA, opens a new window.”
