Anti-Racism Statement
Tacoma Public Library acknowledges the historical and ongoing impact of racism on the Black community and all communities of color. We are committed to fostering an environment that is inclusive, diverse, and actively anti-racist, and we stand firmly against all forms of white supremacy.
In alignment with our Strategic Plan, which prioritizes equity and access, Tacoma Public Library affirms that every person who enters our libraries, regardless of race, background, or circumstance, deserves to feel radically welcomed, respected, and valued. We strive to create spaces where everyone can freely express themselves, explore diverse perspectives, and engage in meaningful dialogue without fear of discrimination or prejudice.
This commitment also echoes our Patron Promise: to be radically welcoming: a trusted community hub where all people can find joy, compassion, and inspiration.
As we continue to evolve, we recognize the importance of listening, learning, and growing alongside the communities we serve. We are committed to providing resources and public programs that reflect the values of anti-racism and center the voices and experiences of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). We embrace our responsibility to confront systemic inequity, and we stand in unity with those who work towards a Tacoma free from oppression, prejudice, and hate.
