Same-day voter assistance services reconfigured for August 4 Primary Election
Pierce County Elections has updated the way voters get assistance on Election Day
In the past, libraries in the Pierce County Library System, the Puyallup Public Library or the Tacoma Public Library were the only locations outside of the county’s single Vote Center in Tacoma where people could get assistance on Election Day.
Vote centers
Pierce County Elections has opened two additional Vote Center locations so that people needing full voter services—including registering to vote, updating voter registration, or receiving a ballot for the first time—can visit a Vote Center and connect with trained elections staff who can efficiently provide service.
The Tacoma Vote Center is open year-round. The new Vote Centers are located in Parkland/Spanaway and Puyallup and are open during peak times close to and on Election Day. Learn more.
Libraries
Libraries will continue to provide access to public computers where voters can log in to VoteWA.gov and print a replacement ballot themselves, free of charge. Libraries also provide reliable, year-round access to voter resources, along with staff who can assist with general voter information.
In the previous configuration, library staff assisted people by connecting them with trained elections staff over the phone, which often led to long waits and transaction times.
“We greatly value our partnership with local libraries, and we want to highlight the consistent access they provide to public computers, free printing and the information and resources that support civic engagement,” said Linda Kent, Chief Deputy Auditor.
Many library locations also have ballot drop boxes. Library staff in locations that do not can help people locate nearby ballot drop boxes as well as Vote Centers.
Pierce County Elections also increased access to voting by adding seven new ballot drop boxes ahead of the August 4 Primary. The additions bring the county's total to 57 ballot drop box locations, giving voters more options to return their ballots conveniently, securely and on time.
