Pennybags, better known as Mr. Monopoly, the mascot of Parker Brothers’ perennial board game favorite Monopoly, is looking pretty sharp for a man in his eighties. Since 1935, variants of the money-changing, property buying and selling hit have been occupying a place in the hearts and dusty game cupboards of millions. November 19th is National Play Monopoly Day. March 19th is World Monopoly Day. You don’t have to wait until then to play again, however, and it’s always time to check out these books from your Tacoma Public Library and learn more about the fascinating history behind Boardwalk and Park Place.
