Tune into the Tacoma Public Library’s Radio Show “Book Notes”

From the 1950s through to the 1970s the Tacoma Public Library's "Book Notes" radio program was aired on KTNT radio Sundays at 10:30 pm. The show featured content such as book reviews, oral histories, lectures, interviews, poetry readings, etc. Each episode was put together and hosted by library staff such as Marile Creager, Gary Reese, Louise Morrison, and Georgeanne Schuler. Many of the episodes of this show were recorded for broadcast and since their airing have never been heard again. Recently, we took on a project to digitize these tapes and make them available on our new database ORCA.

Some of the Northwest Room's favorite episodes are:

Marile Creager interviewing Martin J. Sampson Chief of the Swinomish Tribe of Indians on March 11th, 1973.

Georgeanne Schuler interviewing Fern Hill residents on March 23rd, 1975.

Gary Fuller Reese interviewing Karen Kelley five years after she was Daffodil Queen in 1969.

We hope you enjoy these digitized episodes. If you have any questions about this project or the content featured in these recordings feel free to reach out to us at NWR@tacomalibrary.org or by phone at (253)280-2814.
