Ruth McDowell, also known as Miss Winthrop and Girl of the Mountain, was on hand to greet guests "in the spirit of Mount Rainier" during the weeks following the Winthrop Hotel's Grand Opening on May 16, 1925. For her duties she was attired in a scarlet "mountain costume" of sturdy thick boots and a woolen wrap. Hotel Winthrop manager Sam D. Atkisson is believed to be the man in the background, far right. http://goo.gl/Gcaanj
