Director’s Blog: October 2023

Dear Tacoma community,

This October, Tacoma Public Library celebrated Freedom to Read Week (also known as Banned Books Week) along with libraries across the nation.

Tacoma City Council presented Tacoma Public Library with a Freedom to Read Week proclamation at the Tuesday, Oct. 3 City Council meeting.

The proclamation read, in part:

"Whereas, representation in a library collection affirms the identities of readers; a library's collection should reflect the diversity and complexity of its community, including but not limited to works that reflect the broad experiences, identities, cultures, and histories of LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and communities of color."

City Council members received Freedom to Read buttons. In attendance were members of TPL Board of Trustees, TPL Foundation, and staff.

Thank you for supporting Tacoma Public Library and the Freedom to Read!
