Tacoma Public Library invites the community to “The Main Event” reopening celebration for the Main Library
Saturday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
TACOMA, WA—Tacoma Public Library (TPL) invites the public to celebrate the reopening of Main Library, its flagship downtown location, on Saturday, Feb. 1. The celebration is called The Main Event and will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Who: Tacoma Public Library
What: The reopening celebration for Main Library, the central downtown branch for the Tacoma Public Library system.
When: Saturday, Feb. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The library will remain open until 6 p.m.
Where: Main Library at 1102 Tacoma Avenue South
Schedule:
- 10 a.m. Doors open to fanfare and music by Tacomarama Community Street Band
- 11:30 a.m. Remarks by elected officials and library leadership
- 12 p.m. Kareem Kandi World Orchestra
- 2 p.m. Vaipouli presents Siva Samoan dancers
- 3 p.m. Tacoma Arts Live presents Ballet Folklórico
- 4 p.m. Woodwind trio featuring members of Northwest Sinfonietta
All day activities include:
- Tours of the new Maker Labs, Children's Area, Teen Space, Meeting Rooms, Living Room, and Event and Meeting Spaces
- Demonstrations by staff in the Maker Labs showcasing the materials and equipment available in the Digital Media Lab, Memory Lab, and Wonder Lab
- Open house activities with the second floor Community Hub partners Remakery Tacoma, Tacoma Tool Library, Toolbox Learning Laboratories, and Write253
- Hands-on arts activities with Tacoma Art Museum
- Northwest Room exhibits and archival footage showcase
- A local artist exhibit in the Handforth Gallery
- A scavenger hunt, button making, and more!
