Back to School for You and the Kids

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's back to school we go!

Here are some ideas from Tacoma Public Library to get you and your youngsters ready.

  • If you haven't done so already, get those school clothes ready to go. Nothing is worse than facing the stores in crowded situations. Ditto on the backpack and school supplies.
  • A few weeks before school starts, move bedtime back to an earlier time.
  • Talk about back to school routines for homework, TV, baths, and bedtime so there are no surprises for anyone
  • For older children who may be walking to school, go over the rules of stranger awareness and traffic safety.

If your child is nervous about going into the next grade or starting at a new school, reassure them that other children have these feelings too. Put a positive spin on things and talk about the fun things they’ll be learning. These titles can help.
